Man takes cigarette break, cops take him to psych ward

New York - A pair of blundering cops mistook a downtown man’s cigarette break for a suicide attempt. A lawyer enjoying a puff on the sill of his second-floor apartment window says he was wrestled to the floor by cops who hauled him off to the loony bin. He was shocked when a police car rolled up and two cops jumped out. “Are you about to commit suicide?” one cop asked. The 40-year-old trial lawyer scoffed. “If I jumped from here, I’d just sprain my ankle.”...More

Restaurant will keep diners in the dark, served by blind waiters

New York - At Dans le Noir? New York, blind waiters will serve French cuisine in a windowless space with no light. “It’s a sensory culinary experience,” Manager Celine Djezvedjian told the New York Daily News. “This is an experience that will allow people to discover and rediscover the food and wine they already know.” In the six years the restaurant has operated in Paris, there has not been a single accident caused by darkness, she said, and branches have opened in London and Moscow.,,,More

Girl’s name really is Boo!

New York - The parents of an 8-year-old New York girl say they named her Boo! because she was due on Halloween. The exclamation point was added to Boo!’s name later to make sure people knew her name was related to Halloween. “It was the joke that became reality,” Boo!’s mother, Erika, said. “I love the exclamation point. ‘Boo’ is wimpy without it - and Halloween now is extra fun.”..more

Deer swims Hudson River from New Jersey to New York
New York - A scrappy young buck desperate to hoof it out of New Jersey swam some 2,000 yards to the Empire State on Tuesday afternoon. Cops were on the lookout after reports of a deer roaming downtown Jersey City started coming in. A police boat in New York Harbor spotted the deer running along the rocky shore of Governors Island about 1:30 p.m. and sped to the rescue. Cops shot the 10-point buck with a tranquilizer and hauled him off to a nature preserve near the southwest shore of Staten Island.----...More
